| What
are the benefits of the MultiFunction Module?
This
module is specifically designed to provide additional visibility to your
Signal® mirrors in situations beyond
your turn signal. It will provide you with up to 4 additional features
that will use your existing Signal Mirror®
display. You can choose to use any combination of one to all four features.

the MFM or you can download our video

and the MFM.

Is the MFM "rugged"
enough to handle vibration? Where can it be mounted?
Yes,
the MFM has been tested against OEM vibration testing standards. The MFM
can be mounted in any interior location. The MFM has not designed to be
exposed directly to moisture or weathering conditions.
Is it necessary
to have the MFM installed by a professional? Can I do it myself?
Muth
Mirror Systems strongly recommends professional installation of this kit.
Ideally, installers who are experienced in installing aftermarket alarm
systems, remote starters, or key-fobs should perform this installation.
This is a universal or non-model specific kit and it is impossible for
us to provide detailed installation instructions for all specific applications.
The complexity of this install is about the same level as a full-featured
aftermarket alarm system. Check out the instructions here.
Where can I have
my MultiFuction Module professionally installed?
You can call us at 1-800-844-6616 or download
our Key Installer listing from here
to help you find a recommended professional installer in your area. It
is in .PDF format and includes key installers for each state as well as
specific contacts and phone numbers within each company.
I already have
Signal® mirrors already installed.
Can I have the MFM installed?
If
your Signal Mirror® installation was
done aftermarket, you will need to do the following: The two-wire cable
from each Signal® mirror must be connected
directly to the MFM. There must not be any other connection between the
Signal® mirror and the MFM, including
any connection to ground. The MFM will require that the turn signal connections
that originally went to the Signal®
mirrors will be connected to the MFM input harness. In addition to the
turn signal connections, connections will be made to the brake, reverse,
door and 12 volt switched ACC circuits to take advantage of the additional
features that the MFM can provide. If you have OE Signal®
mirrors and want to install the MFM, please contact
us to see if that is possible. Note: The MFM will not work with the
33-pixel design found on the 1997-8 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer and 1998
Ford F150/250 Lariat.
Will the alarm
tick run my battery dead?
The
draw of the MFM with the alarm tick feature is very low. The draw over
time will amount to about 1 amp hour every 6-7 days. The means that unless
you are going to store your vehicle for an extended period of time, you
will not need to disable this feature.
What are the dimensions
and weight of the MFM?
Without
the wire harness, the MFM is 3.25 x 4.38 x 1.5 inches and weighs 4.6 ounces.
How many wire connections
are needed to activate all the features of the MFM?
If
every feature of the MFM is enabled, typically 9 wire connections are
needed, including power and ground. In addition, two wires must be connected
to each Signal® mirror.
What lengths of
wires come with the MFM?
The
input harness cables are six feet in length.
How detailed are
the installation instructions? Where can I get a copy?
The
MFM is a universal or non-model specific kit. This means that there are
no detailed instructions for your specific model of vehicle. We do provided
detailed instructions on what circuit each input wire has to be connected
to, but it is up to the installer to determine the best circuit location
to tap into. Because of this, install times can vary greatly, and will
depend on the installer's familiarity with the specific vehicle. The MFM
installation instructions are found here.
What are some common
installation errors?
To
avoid causing the MFM to malfunction, please note the following:
- You
must connect the Signal® mirrors
to the MFM only. If the Signal Mirror®
harness is connected to the vehicle too, it will cause the MFM to malfunction.
- Verify
that the turn signal wires carry only the turn function and not the
brake signal too.
- To
activate the MFM for each feature, you will need to tie into circuits
that go from 0 volts to 12 volts when activated (active high), or from
12 volts to 0 volts when activated (active low).
- The
MFM can simulate the alarm tick without an alarm. We recommend even
if you have an alarm, you just use the MFM simulated tick instead of
tying into the alarm system. If you need to tie into the alarm, you
will need to find a circuit that will go from 0 to 12 volts or 12 to
0 volts as stated above, or the feature will not function properly.
- If
you are unable to locate the necessary wires to activate the features
you want to use, run a wire from the rear taillights to the MFM unit.
Most of the wires you will need are there (turn, brake, and reverse).
